Prophesy, Vision & Dreams
Prophecy, visions and dreams are an integral aspect of spirituality shared by both the Church and Native Americans since the old days and well into modern times. In fact, dreams and visions were received by Natives that paved the way for Christianity by foretelling the coming of the “new medicine” that was to be brought by the “palefaces”.
Many First Nation’s holy men and women throughout Turtle Island received visions of the new medicine ways that were coming to our people. Visions of the “Talking Leaves” (The Bible) and the men who were bringing this new message and the prophecies from ancient times foretold these coming events. Following are only a few of the references found in the scriptures pertaining to these spiritual gifts of visions and dreams that The Creator still uses to this day.
Receiving guidance from God through visions and dreams:
Job 33 12-15 “…..as you your self have said, “God is greater than any person”. 13 So why are you bringing a charge against Him? You say, He does not respond to people’s complaints.14 But God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it.15He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in bed.”
1 Thessalonians 5 19-20 “Do not put out the Spirit’s fire;20do not treat prophecy with contempt.
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 “A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means to helping the entire church. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advise; to another he gives the gift of special knowledge. 9 The Spirit gives special faith to another, and to someone else he gives the power to heal the sick. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and to another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to know whether it really is the Spirit of God or another spirit speaking. Still another is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, and another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.11 It is the one and only Holy Spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.”
Acts: 2:4 “And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.”
The Lord promises us spiritual gifts throughout the Bible, the Lord’s Promise of His Spiritual Gifts in the last days is mentioned TWICE. Once in the Old Testament and again in the New Testament:
Joel 2: 28-29 “…..I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will will see visions. 29 In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on servants, men and women alike.”
Acts 2:17-18 “In the last days, God said, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.18 In those days I will pour out my Spirit upon all servants, men and women alike, and they will prophesy.”
One does not need a Ph.D to be able to speak with spiritual authority.
Peter and John before the council of rulers, elders and teachers of religious law:
Acts 4:13 “The members of the church were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men who had no special training.”
Acts 4:16-20 ” What should we do with these men?”, they asked each other. “We can’t deny they have done a miraculous sign, and everybody in Jerusalem knows about it.17But perhaps we can stop them from spreading their propaganda. We’ll warn them not to speak to anyone in Jesus’ name again.”18So they called the apostles back in and told them never again to speak or teach about Jesus. 19 but Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him?20 We cannot stop telling about the wonderful things we have seen and heard.”
